About Me
My name is Matan Berman and I am an award-winning documentary filmmaker and nonfiction storyteller. I have extensive experience working on both fiction and nonfiction films, and I am ready and able to fill any role on your production.
In 2023, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Documentary Studies and History minor from Ithaca College. During my time at IC and the Park School of Communications, I was able to sharpen my skills in development, production, research, archival, and post-production.
In 2023, I produced and directed a short documentary entitled The Last Cobbler. It focuses on the last independent shoe repair shop in Ithaca, New York as it’s owner and proprietor contemplates retirement in an ever-changing shoe repair landscape. It premiered at the 2023 Worker Unite Film Festival in New York City, where it took home an Honorable Mention in the Short Documentary Category. Additionally, it showed at 2024 Buffalo International Film Festival. In addition, I served as Producer and Director of Research on Not in Our Schools (2022), a short documenting the fight over the teaching of race and history in Loudoun County, Virginia. Most recently, I have served as Associate Producer on independent feature Member of the Tribe, which focuses on a middle-aged filmmaker’s re-examination into Judaism in the wake of his son’s Bar Mitzvah.
My passion for documentaries and filmmaking comes out whenever I am able to talk or be a part of a production team. I am a hard-worker, with a positive attitude and an unmatched passion for filmmaking and capturing the human experience. I am currently serving as a freelancer and would love to be part of your team in any capacity!
